LITERACY INTERNS

posted: 25 July 2008
starting: 1 September 2008

Attention all creative, book-loving, passionate, fun, and wonderful people! Looking for an internship where you'll gain valuable skills and contacts, make a difference every day, and only have to make coffee if you personally plan to drink it? Then consider this your invitation to apply as one of our new secret weapons in the field of literacy programming.

In this esteemed position, you will be the resident czar of a subset of our current literacy projects. Their exact nature is subject to schedule, but they could well include coordinating volunteers for our special festivals and events (previous such experiences included the Printers Row Book Fair and Pitchfork Music Festival), leading creative writing field trips in prose and poetry for elementary school kids (while, just as a perk, getting to wear the amazing Pencil costume), bringing adults to be Reading Buddies with grade school children, and much, much more. You’ll also get to represent Open Books at events, get your hands on our over 250,000 used books, help us brainstorm new outreach opportunities and literacy programs and spread the word about them, and generally use your energy, creativity, and organizational skills to bring the joy of books and reading to groups all over the city. Ideal candidates will be available 9am - 3pm Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and/or Thursdays and be able to start in September.

Interested? Fantastic!
