Mural Painting And Book Signing Party with Phil Yeh, Geoff Bevington, and Matt Lorentz: Celebrating Steve The Dog & The Winged Tiger!

Phil Yeh, often called the Godfather of the Modern American Graphic Novel, has teamed up with Chicagoland cartoonist Geoff Bevington and Belgian copper lace artist Lieve Jerger to create one of the most unique children's books of our time: a delightful story for all ages that shows kids the wonderful things they can do with their lives without using a remote control or electronics of any kind.

In page after page of this incredible book, some of the best landmarks of Chicagoland are shown in timeless storybook style -- and at Open Books this March, visitors will not only have the opportunity to buy one of 1500 signed, numbered, limited edition copies, but will get to meet the artists and watch as they paint an unbelievable mural on the wall of the Open Books store! Don't miss it!!!

Poetry Off The Shelf: David Baker

Poetry Off The Shelf: David Baker

Few poets writing today are so closely identified with a place as is David Baker, who makes his particular locale–the Midwest–into a mirror for the human experience on a universal level. Baker currently holds the Thomas B. Fordham Chair of Creative Writing at Denison University in Granville, Ohio, where he is a professor of English. He also serves as poetry editor of the Kenyon Review and teaches regularly in the MFA program for writers at Warren Wilson College. His most recent book is Never-Ending Birds (W.W. Norton, 2009).

Open Books is proud to welcome the Poetry Foundation with this event. Come hear David Baker read at the Open Books store!
