Are you a fellow bookworm who brakes for book sales, thinks rainy day = reading, carries a threadbare library card, and wants to get involved with promoting literacy? Open Books is looking for enthusiastic, energetic, creative, literature-loving volunteers to help turn our store into a beacon of bookselling for Chicago and beyond.
The Open Books store is open Monday through Saturday from 10am to 7pm. We would love your help during the day, evening, or weekend, and we appreciate all you can contribute!

Bookstore Volunteering
The Open Books store is open for business, and we're looking for cheerful book-loving volunteers to help keep it running!

Responsibilities:
* Providing blue-ribbon customer service including greeting shoppers, checking bags, locating sections or titles, recommending books, and helping with transactions
* Assisting with daily store processes and procedures including sorting books and merchandise, stocking shelves, creating displays, and cleaning
* Promoting Open Books' mission, programs, and opportunities for involvement
* Helping to execute events such as story time, film screenings, and author sessions in the store
Note: Volunteers will be expected to take on some, any, or all of these responsibilities as needed. Specialization is not possible at this time.
Requirements:
* Attendance at an Open Books Orientation (1 hour)
* Participation in Open Books Store Training (2.5 hours)
* Clear background check (standard for all Open Books volunteers working with youth)
* Monthly commitment of a minimum of 3 shifts in the store (~10 hours)
* Volunteer term of 3 consecutive months or more

Storytelling In The Bookstore
Calling all storytellers! Would you love to lead Open Books storytime for our young readers? We need engaging, educational storytelling volunteers with morning availability on weekdays or Saturdays, once a month. Attendance at an Open Books orientation and storytime training are required. |
